Glaumbær

Only a 15min drive away from Sauðárkrókur is the historic turf farmhouse museum, Glaumbær.  Visit the museum and inspect the fascinating turf construction interior and exterior.   As there is very little wood found in Iceland this type of building was popular in the 18th and 19th century and offered good insulation against the cold winter climate. Glaumbær farm was inhabited until 1947.  Before you leave Glaumbær take a break and feast on traditional Icelandic pancakes, cakes, coffee and hot chocolate at Áskaffi.
