A place not to miss in the summer are the hot springs at Grettislaug, only a 25 minute drive from Sauðárkrókur. Situated in the stunning landscape are two thermal rock pools, a great place to soak and relax in approximately 39°c naturally heated water.
Whilst there you can arrange a booking for a boat trip to Drangey. Drangey is an island that juts up nearly 200m out of the sea and is a haven for a variety of bird life including the Puffin. Drangey is recounted in the Grettis Saga and is where the two brothers Grettir and Illugi lived for three years and were eventually killed there.
